Ukraine

Ukraine is a country located in Eastern Europe, bordered by Belarus to the northwest, Russia to the northeast and east, and the Black Sea to the south. It is the largest country entirely within Europe and has a diverse landscape that includes plains, plateaus, and mountain ranges. The capital and largest city is Kyiv. Ukraine has a rich cultural heritage and a history that reflects a variety of influences due to its geographical position and historical ties with neighboring nations, including Russia and Poland.

The country has a parliamentary republic government and is known for its significant agricultural production, particularly in grains and sunflower oil, earning it the nickname “breadbasket of Europe.” Ukraine’s economy is also supported by industries such as steel and machinery manufacturing.

Ukraine gained independence from the Soviet Union on August 24, 1991, following a national referendum in which a majority of citizens voted for independence. The country has faced various challenges since independence, including political turmoil and issues related to its territorial integrity, notably the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014 and ongoing conflicts in the eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk. The nation is known for its vibrant culture, including traditional music, art, and cuisine.
